The Real Remote Score

A 0–100 score that captures how genuinely remote a job listing is, along five auditable pillars. We publish the full rubric so that any hiring team can see exactly what the score measures — and adjust their listings accordingly.

The rubric

Five pillars, 100 points

Every listing RemNavi indexes gets a Real Remote Score. The score is the sum of five sub-scores, one per pillar. No pillar can produce a negative number — missing data is treated as zero, not as a penalty.

Compensation transparency

Whether the posting publishes a real range — the single most honest signal of how the employer treats candidates before interview.

Role clarity

Seniority and stack should be in the title. "Software Engineer" tells a candidate nothing; "Senior Python Backend Engineer" tells them everything they need before a single click.

Tier labels

What the total score means

We group raw scores into five tiers. Tiers are a convenience — the underlying number is always published alongside.

90–100

Exceptional

Published salary range, worldwide-open, direct ATS, explicit seniority + stack, and fresh.

75–89

Strong

All the ingredients of a well-run remote hiring process; one or two pillars not maxed.

60–74

Solid

A credible listing with real information — worth applying to.

40–59

Mixed

Missing major signals. Candidates will need to ask questions before investing time.

0–39

Weak

Too little public information to judge the role. Often stale, vague, or country-gated without disclosure.

What the score is not

Boundaries

The Real Remote Score is not a job-quality score. A low-paying role with full transparency can score higher than a well-paid role that hides the band — that's intentional. The score rewards honest public listings, not salary absolutes.

The score is not a company score. Two listings from the same company can score very differently. We always score the listing, never the employer brand.

The score is not permanent. Freshness decays, so a role that scored 90 on day 1 will drop as it ages — a mechanic we consider a feature, not a bug.

The score is computed from public data only. We never contact the employer to verify. If a listing says "US-only" publicly but the recruiter tells you otherwise in a call, the score will reflect what was published.
